Croydon Red Book: Norbury

This is the first in a series of books which will eventually cover the whole of the London Borough of Croydon. This encyclopeadia lists features of the particular area such as roads, open spaces, historical sites, and forms of transport - both past and present.

Norbury was selected as the first Red Book because unlike much of Croydon, it was not really developed until the beginning of the 20th century. Then, in the space of 30 years the whole area was almost fully built over with its distinctive pattern of housing estates and parades of shops fronting the original Roman road.

This is the second book in the series, covering the two Thornton Heaths. First the original one centred around Thornton Heath Pond - now but a memory, and the newer area around Thornton Heath Station.

Thornton Heath was chosen as the second Red Book to compliment the now available Norbury edition.
